He used to be an evangelical Christian pastor, ex-businessman, former newspaper columnist, and college instructor.
He graduated with a BA in English from Ateneo de Davao University in 1968. He later pursued his postgraduate degree at Silliman University and graduated with a Master’s degree in Divinity in 1984. He also has a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship major in Social Development from the Asian Institute of Management in 2005.
He was kidnapped by tribal bandits for 24 hours in 1996 and was later released with the help of then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
He is a former spokesperson for President Rodrigo Duterte. He also resigned from his post as foreign undersecretary when he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president.
