War on Drugs

I have long been supportive of the government's war on illegal drugs. However, we must recognize that there is no quick-fix solution to our drug problem. Drug dependence is a disease fueled by poverty and a lack of opportunities. Fixing our economy will contribute more to addressing the drug problem.

ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal

To some people who want to equate the non-renewal of [ABS-CBN] to dismantling of oligarchy is inaccurate. It has more negative effects to the economy and the business climate. To deny the franchise of a company which has no clear violations of our laws sends a signal that politicians can stop a business operation on a whim.

I know it is a biblical command of the Lord as far as heinous crimes are concerned. But, is our justice system ready to implement that based on truth, justice and righteousness? It will not be enough to rely solely on 'good faith' on the part of China. We have to consistently express and stand by our sovereign rights. We sincerely urge everyone to champion our claim to the West Philippine Sea. Our victories in international arbitration have proven the validity of our claims to the area. We should maximize these gains to solve the issues in the West Philippine Sea.

I was the first one to point this out; 25,000 people from our local manufacturers of face masks and personal protective equipment lose their jobs. They were replaced by only seven employees who are not even paying taxes and contributions. These are the things that we need to look into seriously. We respect the executive but we also ought to be respected as legislators and as an institution.

Organization of Community Pantries

Community pantries should draw official support, not government suspicion. Imbis na paghinalaan, a public official, if he is true to his oath, must instead shower these bayanihan projects with PDA--public display of affection--as these are perfectly aligned with what the government is doing to help Filipinos cope with the pandemic.

Philippines-China Relations

We'd like to be a friend of China, but its leaders are making it hard for us to fall in love with them, when all they have shown us are public displays of aggression. This will lead to further environmental degradation, if not fool-hardly and waste of resources in a time of great hunger and economic hardship.

While there’s a lot of room for improvement for the country's party-list system, it has reinforced a culture of accountability and provided another layer of checks and balances in our government. Other than the fact that Charter change will be a hard sell especially before the 2022 elections, the party-list system will have to be judged by its merits because I've personally seen how the system has allowed the poor and underrepresented participate in decision-making.
