ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal

For decades, media has been performing this role, often at great risk to the lives of its field reporters and crew, in order to provide our people with timely and relevant information. In far-flung areas beyond the immediate reach of government, such information from media can spell the difference between life and death. Sadly, the closure of ABS CBN, including its radio and regional network, has left a noticeable void that has yet to be filled by the other networks.

Red-tagging of Students

The military is mounting an assault on critical thinking. They want our universities to produce citizens who are pliant, obedient, and unquestioning. They forget that critical thinking leads to advances in science, medicine, arts, and society. Stifle it and you choke progress. It is imbued with the noble purpose of providing citizens the tools to think independently and critically, to see themselves as contributors to the regeneration of society. By attempting to stifle critical thinking, they are also stifling democracy itself, since democracy draws its strength from critical thinking and the process of renewal that it proffers. Without critical thinking, democracy and its institutions will atrophy. Incessant assaults, especially from forces from within, could lead to its demise, unless it is confronted and defeated. Parlade and other military and police officials claim they are only protecting the youth from the Left. But with so many documented cases of illegal arrest, torture, and even killing of youth and students, can they really say that they are protectors of the youth? Let me give a short answer: Kian de los Santos.

Their personnel have been planting evidence and filing false charges against innocent civilians since time immemorial. They habitually abuse their authority over common citizens and have been involved in criminal activities. Publicly, they make veiled threats of inflicting physical harm. They institutionalize curtailment of certain rights and legitimize draconian measures against citizens.

There is no way the administration can justify its decision to cut the budget of the [PGH] during a pandemic.

Alam mo, yan ang kabutihan ng tunay na demokrasya. Mayroong bumabatikos, mayroong nagsasabi sa tao na may kamaliang nangyayari. Freedom of the press, basic foundation yan ng demokrasya. Simple lang naman yan eh, ayaw na [ng pamahalaan] na magkaroon ng isang ABS-CBN na ipakita na may freedom of the press.

COVID-19 Mass Testing

Until now, government has yet to improve its mass testing and contact tracing capabilities. These steps have been proven effective in containing the virus, as shown by the experience of other countries. Border control is seen as another weak spot. And vaccine procurement? Let's not even go there.

Philippines-China Relations

In so far as our interest in the Western Philippines Sea is concerned, non-negotiable. The same way as sovereignty over the area, non-negotiable 'yon. Anti-terror law

Their personnel have been planting evidence and filing false charges against innocent civilians since time immemorial. They habitually abuse their authority over common citizens and have been involved in criminal activities. Of late, they have displayed an arrogant distaste for facts, denouncing groups and individuals as terrorists without offering proof or based on wrong information. Publicly, they make veiled threats of inflicting physical harm. They institutionalize curtailment of certain rights and legitimize draconian measures against citizens.

It is therefore only proper that we ask government, or rather, demand from government that they spend every peso wisely, that they ensure that these borrowings go to programs that address the needs of millions of Filipinos and help our economy recover. It depends on the time you are in. Enough of vindictiveness. Let's move on. Human rights (during the martial law) is no longer an issue...the debacle is already a thing of the past. If we look at the past three or four years, the strongest typhoons that hit our country arrived in November and December. Kasi nakalagay sa Constitution natin 'yung limitation or regulation of foreigners in economic activities in the country lalong lalo na sa sectors ng pioneering industries at tsaka sa agricultural something.

Federalism

Federalism, matatalo 'yan. Hindi tatanggapin ng mga Filipino...that's my belief because I grew up with towns that want to secede. One requirement for a shift to federalism is to have a national identity. It’s time for the government to reconsider the concept that physical presence means greater productivity. There is no way the administration can justify its decision to cut the budget of the [PGH] during a pandemic. It also underscores the disastrous management of the pandemic and misplaced priorities in the 2022 budget. Congress should not only restore the budget of PGH but increase it. This will correct an unforgivable act of neglect not only for the value of academic freedom in a democracy but public health during a disastrous pandemic.
