Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano was asked by COA to account for P317.4 million city government expenses

Mayor Lani Cayetano was charged with plunder and graft after COA noted suspicious financial transactions and irregularities in the city government. Among the allegations were “doubtful existence” of medicines and medical, dental, laboratory and office supplies amounting to P102.3 million, and the hiring of 3,200 “ghost employees.”

Lani Cayetano was claimed to have abandoned her petition to retrieve the ballot boxes for recounting

Defeated mayoral candidate Dante Tiñga claimed that Lani Cayetano has abandoned her appeal for the retrieval of the ballot boxes for the recounting of ballots. The retrieval did not did not push through because the city government blocked the roads leading to city hall.

In 2013, Lani Cayetano was accused by her archrival, Rica Tinga of Taguig City of vote buying. She said that Cayetano should be made to explain where she sourced the funds for the P36-million worth of “educational” vouchers which Cayetano distributed to 7,000 high school graduates.

The Office of the Ombudsman has indicted Taguig Mayor Laarni "Lani" Cayetano and another city official for preventing members of the city council from holding regular sessions in 2010. They were charged for violation of Article 143 of the Revised Penal Code.

DQ case filed vs Cayetanos questioning their residence

Lani Cayetano and her husband, Alan Peter Cayetano faced disqualification charges after they admitted to living in separate houses so they could both run separately as representatives for the City of Taguig. A petitioner from Barangay Signal Village asked the Commission on Elections to disqualify the couple for deception.
