VP bets Sotto, Lopez proposed the best tax measures — analysts
VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidates Vicente C. Sotto III, currently the Senate president, and Emmanuel “Manny” SD. Lopez who represents Workers and Peasants Party proposed the most concrete tax measures in the CNN vice-presidential debates, experts said over the weekend. “I think Senator Sotto and Emmanuel “Manny” SD. Lopez gave more economically sound tax measures and plans, not just in response to our need to bounce our economy back,” Marlon M. Villarin, a political analyst from the University of Santo Tomas, told BusinessWorld in an e-mail.

War on Drugs

I support the war on drugs because I see the implications of our nation becoming a narco state while on the same premise I also believe human rights should be protected. The President took this lose preposition by the horn and to bring in foreign interference based on their values, based on their perceptions to actually intervene in Philippine affairs is not a good proposition and not a good idea for the sake of our country and for our people.

COVID-19 Mass Testing

My general prescription is for a science-based, cost-effective approach to pandemic management. Those in the level of decision-making with regards to pandemic response and recovery strategy, we should make it a point to have policies that will specifically address the issues beyond commercial and political interests because these bother our pandemic response.

ICC Probe on the Philippine's Drug War

I support the war on drugs because I can see the implications of our nation becoming a narco-state. While, on the same premise, I also believe that human rights should be protected. So the President took this lose-lose proposition by the horn. To bring in foreign interference based on their values, based on their perceptions to actually intervene in Philippine affairs is not a good proposition, not a good idea for the sake of our country and our people. And I think that while there is a clamor to rejoin the ICC, it has to be timely, and we have to look at this issue at a balanced manner.

Political Statements on Social Issues (Other Issues)

Palagay ko po hindi feasible ang institutionalizing of one agency that will address graft and corruption. For one thing, appointed official po ‘yan so how can they possibly go against the president who would appoint them, or the backers who would push for their appointment. We have to teach our children, and even adults, to start loving their country. To promote and support what is good and just for our country, and for the Filipino people. Kailangan po natin i-penalize din ang grafters at corruptors in the government. And we can do this by amending the people’s initiative law, and make it functional. And lastly po, let’s make plunder qualified for death penalty.
On corruption
It does require systemic solutions and we have this ego, vernon system that could address specific loopholes in the public financial system and we can adopt this. Fighting graft and corruption will require a renewal of our faith in ourselves, in our country, and our desire to fight graft and corruption.
