An environmentalist group called the attention of Senator Gatchalian over his proposed bill that would allow burning of waste through incinerations.

Sen. Gatchalian's proposal for waste incineration will only turn the situation from bad to worse,? Mother Earth Foundation chair Sonia Mendoza said Gatchalian is the principal author of Senate Bill 1789 or the Waste-to-Energy Bill. Once the proposed legislation is approved, burning of waste through the incineration process becomes legal, which is prohibited under the Clean Air Act and Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

On a tweet by Maria Ressa: "Liberal Party: 2018 'may be the fight for nations soul' Sen. Gatchalian's tweet reply: "The nation already lost its soul in the last 6 years." Netizens called the senator "balimbing" and "trapo". Which enraged the senator replying with "gago ka" and "ulol"

Sen. Gatchalian and members of the family faced with graft and corruption case filed by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales

The criminal charges stemmed from the acquisition by the LWUA of the Express Savings Bank Inc., a local thrift bank based in Laguna owned by the Gatchalians of the WELLEX Group Inc. (WGI) and Forum Pacific Inc. (FPI). We will face this baseless case head-on because we have nothing to hide. I have never been charged for graft and corruption as proven by my almost 15 years of public service, marked by transparency and good governance. My name and reputation have never been tarnished by any acts of graft and corruption. The truth will eventually come out and redeem my good name.
