War on Drugs

The problem continues to exist. Everybody can see the influence of drug lords in our everyday lives...Medyo wholesale ngayon ang enforcement eh.

Assertion of Ownership on West Philippine Sea

'Yung policy of engagement na ginagawa ng Duterte government, although it is criticized, it is the right way to go. I don't think the Chinese want to go to war with us. Certainly, we don't want to go to war with China.

Philippines-China Relations

[See Source]
October
2021
We must foster good relations with all countries, including China. And the first step to achieving that is to have good communication. It is admirable to see mutual respect between the Philippines and China. The most important thing is to not focus on one particular issue (such as control of the West Philippine Sea), but to see the long-term relationship between the two countries. There are other facets of the Philippine-China relationship to give attention to such as manufacturing, trade, and sharing intelligence information.

The Anti-Terror Law, the way I see it, talagang dapat naman meron tayong batas na kontra sa terorismo. We have to have it now. Is the Anti-Terror Law in its present form, tama ba 'yun?

I am appealing to the DTI to suspend the price increases in these basic goods since we are still in a pandemic.

Advancing Mining

Dapat siguro lalo na in these difficult times, we should take advantage of that. However, we have seen some of the disasters that have happened when it comes to mining, ay kailangan natin talagang iwasan yan. We have sufficient regulations and we have sufficient monitoring, but hindi nasusunod. That's always the problem; we have the laws but we are not able to implement them, we are not able to fully enforce them sometimes...When it comes to open-pit mining, I think I'm a bit wary about that.
January
2022
There is no mining policy in this government today. We do not have any kind of plan. There is no vision as to what we want the mining industry to be five years from now, 10 years from now, or 15 to 20 years from now. By having a purely anti-mining policy, we are not taking advantage of that [industry] and therefore we are lessening the benefits that we can give to our people...We need to balance the requirements of the economy, assistance to local governments, and of course the most important factor of protecting our environment.

Political Dynasties

But hanggang ngayon, the assumption, the premise has always been dominant political families are necessarily bad, and that's not necessarily the case. So, why will you make them illegal?...If you're worried about dynasties, then take everybody to an election, labanan mo yung dynasty.

I'm still not sure about the two sides in the argument of the anti-dynasty movement. It's not clear to me.
September

Ganyan ang takbo ng politika eh. We talk a lot about the anti-dynasty but we haven't really decided what to do about it. The one thing that we have in the Constitution are the term limits but we have to be candid and frank with each other that it hasn't really worked...you cannot avoid families being a a part of the political scene over several generations because it becomes the family business.

Resumption of Face-to-face Classes

Other countries, ang experiences nila was that there were risks involved in having non-vaccinated teachers and staff when they went back to face-to-face classes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that at least we are trying to start face-to-face classes. It is actually good news because that is a very good sign that, somehow, we are slowly going back to normalcy.

Previous Stance (AGREE): I think the federated system is not a bad system. It’s a good system that we need to examine how applicable it is to the Philippine situation. Why is that a good thing? Because the local officials understand better the problems in the communities than the leaders based in Manila. They have a better idea as to the conditions of the local community, better idea on how to solve the problems.

I think for very severe cases like you said, the most, the majority are the rape victims, I think that if it can be shown that they were raped and it was not consensual sex that got them pregnant, then they should have the choice to abort or not. The other is incest perhaps.

Education is a continuing public expenditure that naturally grows proportionately with the burgeoning population. Therefore, budgetary allocation for public schools and related facilities, and new alternative learning systems and platforms on account of the pandemic, academic and support personnel compensation, scholarship and related academic entitlements and continuing education for teachers should be spared from budgetary cuts. This is the only way Philippine education can keep up with international standards and make Filipino graduates globally competitive.

Philippines-China Relations

October 2021

We must foster good relations with all countries, including China. And the first step to achieving that is to have good communication. It is admirable to see mutual respect between the Philippines and China. The most important thing is to not focus on one particular issue (such as control of the West Philippine Sea), but to see the long-term relationship between the two countries. There are other facets of the Philippine-China relationship to give attention to such as manufacturing, trade, and sharing intelligence information.

What has long sustained our relations thus far has generally been in the area of cultural and arts exchanges. This plays no small part in deepening the understanding between our two peoples. These areas of possible partnerships in international exchanges and cooperation can only be enhanced by the participation of organizations such as CNIE (China NGO Network for International Exchange), whose network of NGOs can serve as a conduit for such activities.

Charter Change

Previous Stance (AGREE): I think the federated system is not a bad system. It’s a good system that we need to examine how applicable it is to the Philippine situation. Why is that a good thing? Because the local officials understand better the problems in the communities than the leaders based in Manila. They have a better idea as to the conditions of the local community, better idea on how to solve the problems.

Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination

We cannot force people to be vaccinated. It will also limit their options in everyday lives. But rather than punish them, I think we should convince them that this is important, it’s important to your work, your community, your family.

Endo (Contractualization)

Decriminalizing Abortion

I think for very severe cases like you said, the most, the majority are the rape victims, I think that if it can be shown that they were raped and it was not consensual sex that got them pregnant, then they should have the choice to abort or not. The other is incest perhaps.

Well, ako medyo mixed yung aking rection diyan. Kasi nakikita ko, nag-aral ako sa ibang bansa, madaling madali ang mag-divorce... pagkaka magkakaroon ng divorce, siguro kailangan talagang susuriin ng mabuti but that also depends upon your religious conviction. It's not a simple question.

Disagree according to Spokesperson Vic Rodriguez: I confirm our non-participation in the Comelec-sanctioned debate...We shall continue with our preferred mode of direct communication with the people and engage them in a more personal face to face interaction that discusses real issues that affect them today, tomorrow and in the days to come as this election is all about our collective future.

Political Statements on Social Issues (Other Issues)

Education is a continuing public expenditure that naturally grows proportionately with the burgeoning population. Therefore, budgetary allocation for public schools and related facilities, and new alternative learning systems and platforms on account of the pandemic, academic and support personnel compensation, scholarship and related academic entitlements and continuing education for teachers should be spared from budgetary cuts. This is the only way Philippine education can keep up with international standards and make Filipino graduates globally competitive.
